MILIA PURPPURA

Associate

Milia Purppura is a researcher with an interest in the UK's foreign policy, Indo-Pacific, the ideological basis of the Chinese Communist Party, and the methodology of Chinese Communist Party influence in the international domain.

 

She has until recently been Senior Researcher for a Member of Parliament on the UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee for 6 years, advising the Member on various policy issues and undertaking in-depth, complex research. She is currently a PhD Candidate at SOAS University of London, researching contemporary UK-PRC relations.

 

She holds an MPhil in World History from the University of Cambridge and an MA with Honours in History and Politics from the University of Glasgow. Her MPhil thesis on how British parliamentary opinions were influenced during the negotiations on the future of Hong Kong in 1982-84 is deposited in both UK Conservative and Labour Party archives.

 

She was Associate Fellow at the Council on Geostrategy (UK) between 2021-23, and was admitted into the Pacific Forum Young Leaders programme in 2019. She has published both academically and op-eds extensively, including in the International History Review, Foreign Policy, CapX, the Henry Jackson Society, the British Interest, and the Royal United Services Institute.
